The Importance of Strength Training & Multi-Station Gyms

In recent decades, the benefits of strength training have come to the forefront of the health and fitness world. It is now generally accepted that any solid program should include a strength training component.

The main benefit of strength training is the prevention of muscle loss. As we progress through the aging process, it is typical to lose 1/4 pound of muscle each year during adulthood. This is due to the lack of use of our muscles in a modern society, as well as a decline in key hormonal levels, especially beyond the age of 30. A decline in muscle means a decline in one’s basal metabolic rate which is the amount of calories that can be burned each day at rest. Burning less calories means an increase in body fat and weight. Strength training can not only offset muscle loss but can lead to an increase in total muscle mass, thereby increasing one’s metabolism. This can lead to a higher basal metabolic rate allowing more calories to be burned at rest. Additionally, bone loss is becoming a pervasive problem as people age, but this too can be remedied by strength training, which has been proven to increase bone density.

Strength training options have evolved dramatically over the decades. The launch of the Nautilus line of equipment in the late 1960’s and 1970’s began an awareness of the multitude of benefits that can be realized through resistance training. In the 1980’s, many weight machines and strength training products emerged to meet the growing awareness of the benefits of strength training. In the 1990’s, multi-station gyms that literally brought a full service gym into a person’s home began to revolutionize the way people could pursue their fitness goals.

Recently, the multi-station gym has evolved even further. Today’s units offer more features then ever before taking up even less space then their predecessors. Units are now designed with complete functional capability through adjustable cables, are outfitted with Smith machine bars, low row pulleys, lat pull down stations, and many other features. Users are now able to construct ingenious programs with these machines and are only limited by their own imagination.

At First Place Fitness Equipment, we have a complete selection of multi-station gyms to choose from. Please stop by to try them and we are confident you will find the unit that is perfect for your situation!
